Spiritual direction

Spiritual Direction is about holding space to notice and name the work of God. We see this modeled by God with His people over time. Jesus invites us to keep company with Him in Matthew 11:28-30.   It is based on the premise that God is active in your life. His actions reflect His love for you, and you may experience and respond to Him.

In Direction, we set aside an hour or so every month to notice anything that may be stirring in you. These may be things like restlessness, contentment, pain, joy, resistance, confusion, or grief. The director is a listener, noticing themes and attentive to the promptings of the Spirit. You are invited to sit with and hear directly from God regarding those movements of your heart.

We use the tools of silence, contemplation, imagination and Scripture to become present to God as He is present with us. This practice is sometimes described as holy listening or soul companionship. It is a sacred time to carry into your daily life as you explore the rhythms that draw you closer to God in the ordinary moments. It can serve as a way of  being in beloved community, even a community of two.

My practice is based in the Christian Trinitarian tradition, and ecumenical in nature. I maintain strict confidentiality. I will not offer you my personal opinion nor sit in any kind of judgment. This space is held for you, and is intended to be a refuge of peace and life.

If you are interested in exploring Spiritual Direction, whether just curious or seeking a director, please contact me. I would be happy to answer your questions or evaluate whether I might be a good fit for you.

Offering Spiritual Direction is both a delight and a vocation for me.   My standard fee is $50 per individual 60 minute session. However, I never want issues of payment to keep you from experiencing the benefits of this time; if so, please tell me. I'm located in the south metro of Minneapolis, and have also found Zoom to work well if I am not local to you.
